    Boiler Maintenance Tips/Advice
Our guide to maintaining your gas boiler should help to lengthen the product life of your gas boiler

    * Run your boiler and central heating at least once a month, even in summer to ensure it runs efficiently. Also clear the boiler pump of any dirt that can collect in it when the boiler is not in use.
    * Have regular boiler inspections with by a CORGI registered engineer once a year and have them issue a CP 12 safety certificate.
    * Fit a carbon monoxide detector to warn you if there's a leak and turn off the gas and call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999 if it shows that carbon monoxide is present

    DO NOT:

Don't try to fix or tamper with gas appliances yourself, only a CORGI engineer can repair your boiler. Tampering with the boiler can void the gas safety certificate and is dangerous if you are not qualified.

Don't use gas appliances that may be faulty

Don't use gas appliances with yellow or orange flames (unless you have a fuel effect fire which is supposed to be this colour) because these are signs that they is a fault.

Don't use appliances that are stained or have soot around them, they may be faulty.

Don't use a boiler in which the pilot light is frequently blowing out, it is probably faulty.

Don't cover your gas appliances up or block the air vents.

Don't block ventilation grilles or air bricks.

Don't block outside flues and always ensure they're kept clear of obstruction.

Don't think twice, if you think you smell gas, or think you have a gas leak in your home, turn off your gas supply, do not switch any electrical appliances on or off or bring naked flames into your home, and call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. Even if you turn out to be wrong, it's always better to be safe rather than sorry.
